Bequests

Wills and bequests – a gift for life
There are many reasons why making a bequest is an increasingly popular alternative for those interested in supporting our research beyond their lifetime. Sometimes our everyday commitments mean that we are unable to help today, but we can consider a gift in the future.

Leaving a bequest in your Will is one of the ways you can ensure that future generations benefit from the research programs at the Institute.

Making a bequest in favour of the Monash Institute of Medical Research
A bequest to Monash Institute of Medical Research is one way for you to ensure future generations are able to benefit from the services that the Institute provides. Making provision for your family and those close to you should of course be the priority when writing a Will. After you have done this, however, you may consider    including the Monash Institute of Medical Research as a beneficiary.

It is important to consult a solicitor to ensure that your wishes are recorded in a legally binding form.

There are a number of ways you can assist the Institute by way of gifting:

  • a specific sum
  • shares, real estate or other material assets
  • a percentage of your estate
  • the residue of your Estate once other bequests have been made.

The Manager, Marketing and Philanthropy will be pleased to speak with you or your solicitor to answer any questions about including the Institute in your Will. Gifts of this kind are treated with the utmost confidentiality and if you prefer remain anonymous. If you already have a will you can simply add a codicil (a document that varies a will) to your will that sets out your instructions for a bequest to the Monash Institute of Medical Research.

The correct wording for leaving a gift to the Institute is:

“I give the sum of …………… dollars ($.........) to the Monash Institute of Medical Research, Monash University, Melbourne, Victoria, for general projects which, may be applied where most needed by the Monash Institute of Medical Research and I declare that the official receipt of Monash Institute of Medical Research shall be good and sufficient discharge to my Trustees who shall not be obliged to see to the application thereof.”
