March 2010 The Ritchie Centre's Associate Professor Stuart Hooper has been awarded a five year program grant from the NHMRC entitled "Improved respiratory support and outcomes from very preterm babies" The NHMRC will provide $8,560,000 funding over five years beginning in 2011. This project will seek to understand the causes of lung disease in premature babies and develop better ways of caring for them to improve their chances of survival without ongoing illness and disability.
January 2010 Professor Euan Wallace has been appointed the new Director of the Ritchie Centre.
The Ritchie Centre was originally established for research into neonatal (newborn baby) health. Under Prof Wallace’s leadership, its scope will widen to include fetal and perinatal (the weeks before and after birth) medicine, maternal health and stem cell biology.
