Flow Cytometry Facilities

The core flow cytometry facility at Monash Medical Centre currently consists of three Dako Mo-Flo instruments and one BD instrument.

The Mo-Flo XDP, high speed sorter:

  • 3 lasers (405nm, 488nm, 633nm),
  • Measures 13 parameters (11 fluorescence, 2 light scatter).
  • Can sort at analysis rates of up to 30 000 cells/second.
  • The older Mo-Flo SRT is also equipped with 3 lasers (455nm, 488nm, 633nm), and can measure 8 parameters (6 fluorescence, 2 light scatter).

The Mo-Flo BTA analyser :

  • 2 lasers (488nm, 633nm)
  • Meansures 7 parameters (5 fluorescence, 2 light scatter)
  • Suited to new users.

The BD FACS Canto II analyser:

  • 3 lasers (405nm, 488nm, 633nm)
  • Measures 10 parameters (8 fluorescence, 2 light scatter)
  • Also available out of hours to fully trained users.

This array of instrumentation is generally compatible with most commonly used fluorochromes. It is however advised that the FACS lab be consulted prior to ordering materials.

Open:
Monday - Friday
10:30am -  6:00pm.

*If you want to work outside these hours please contact us.

Please provide us the following information:

  • Your name
  • Contact number,
  • Number of tubes to be run
  • Fluorochromes to be used
  • Any potential biohazardous material

To ensure you get the time you want it is best to book the instruments at least a week in advance be sure you can get the time you want.
Data generated from the flow cytometers can be copied onto a flash drive for personal archiving. All users are responsible for their own data management. Data is stored on our PC’s for a maximum of 6 months.
Additional information can be found here

We are happy to discuss any questions you might have on the use of these instruments.
