MIMR Immunoassay facility
MIMR has had over twenty years experience in measuring hormones and other analytes in biological fluids, from both clinical materials and also from various species animal models. This includes use of both ELISA-based assays and radioimmunoassays. The Immunoassay Facility is run as part of the Centre for Reproduction and Development on a largely cost-recovery model and is available to all members of MIMR, researchers at Monash University and external clients and collaborators.
Facilities available
The facility is run on a cost-recovery model, comprising of an immunoassay laboratory with a laboratory technician with over 30 years experience in running immunoassays, overseen by Associate Professor David Phillips. The laboratory includes a separate radiation-certified laboratory for carrying out iodinations and storing iodinated materials and a dedicated PC2-certified immunoassay laboratory with immunoassay equipment, autopipettes, an ELISA plate washer and a dedicated ELISA plate reader with appropriate software. Both β- and gamma-counters are available for radioimmunoassay applications.
The laboratory can run a range of different immunoassays.
Cost strucutre
The equine inhibin test is already used by a number of veterinary pathology labs and veterinarians within Australia and is offered at a standard fee of $100 per test. For the other assays offered, the costings for these are put together following discussion with the collaborator/client. This is largely dependent on the type of assay required, the number of samples to be assayed and purchase of specific assay reagents, such as antibodies or kits. As well as these costs, which are passed onto the end user at cost price, there are general laboratory consumable costs, labour to perform the assays (hourly rate), and shipment of samples to MIMR and their return (if required). The total cost, either as a firm quote or estimated invoice, is provided to the collaborator/client before proceeding with any tests.

We are happy to discuss using immunoassays, analytes or sample types that are not listed. We only list those assay formats which we currently offer or have used in the past.
