Annual Ron Evans Golf Day
Ron Evans Golf Day 2008
The second annual Ron Evans Golf Day was held on Monday 24 November at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club. The event is held in memory of Ron Evans AM, an outstanding footballer, administrator, business man and Monash Alumnus, who passed away in March 2007 after a battle with cancer.
More than 120 people gathered at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club for the 2008 Ron Evans Golf Day to honour Ron and to raise important funds for cancer research.
After a great day out on the course, in almost perfect golfing conditions, golfers enjoyed dinner and an auction. Participants had the opportunity to bid on sporting memorabilia, holidays, golfing equipment and other items generously donated to enable the Institute to raise further funds for cancer research.
Dr Steve Greenall, MIMR's Ron Evans Cancer Research Fellow, spoke to dinner guests about the opportunity he has been given to learn more about the growth and development of different cancers to discover new approaches to cancer prognosis and therapy. The Ron Evans Cancer Research Fellowship is made possible by funds raised at the annual Golf Day.
The Chairman of the Ron Evans Golf Day Committee, David Evans, and MIMR would like to thank all the participating players, organisations and sponsors for making this year’s Ron Evans Golf Day a great success.
