Ron Evans Golf Day 2009

The third annual Ron Evans Golf Day was held on Monday 23rd November 2009 at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

The annual Golf Day is held as a tribute to Ron Evans AM who passed away in 2007 after a battle with cancer.  Ron Evans AM will be remembered as a great sportsman, businessman, administrator and philanthropist. The Ron Evans Golf Day is held to honour Ron’s life and to raise important funds for bowel cancer research.

More than 120 people gathered at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club to participate in the 2009 Golf Day.  Members of Ron’s family, his friends and business associates together with supporters of MIMR enjoyed a great day of golfing on the West Course.

The Channel Nine team, which included James Brayshaw, Shane Crawford, Ben Dixon and Nathan Thompson, were victorious and won the Ron Evans Perpetual Trophy, narrowly beating the Foxtel team.

The day concluded with the Golf Day Dinner which gave everyone the opportunity to share stories from the day and to further support MIMR’s research.by purchasing items at an auction

The Golf Day has enabled the Institute to establish the Ron Evans Cancer Research Fellowship, awarded to Dr Sameer Greenall and to provide support for a PhD student Scholarship, awarded to Matthew Thompson  Both these scientists are researching bowel cancer to develop a greater understanding of the growth and development of the disease.  could the aim of their research is to identify new therapeutic targets for bowel cancer treatment.

MIMR is grateful for the support received from all participating teams and sponsors who helped to make this event a great success.
