Professor Colin Goodchild
Director, Centre for Pain Medicine & Palliative Care
Professor Colin Goodchild, MA, MB, BChir, PhD, FRCA, FANZCA, FFPMANZCA, is the Director, Centre for Pain Medicine and Palliative Care. He is recognised internationally for his clinical, academic and research expertise in pain medicine, palliative care and anaesthesia.
He was appointed Foundation Professor of the Monash University Department of Anaesthesia in 1992, a position he holds to this day and continues to combine with an undergraduate and postgraduate teaching role. Prior to this, he held a range of senior clinical positions between 1975 and 1992 in the United Kingdom.
In addition, Professor Goodchild has extensive experience within the pharmaceutical industry, in both the clinical research and drug development fields. He has also been successful in creating intellectual property through laboratory research, proof of concept in humans and patenting.
Professor Goodchild combines his clinical and scientific skills in giving anaesthetics and providing pain relief to patients, with his laboratory and clinical research as Centre Director and Research Director and Chief Scientific Officer of CNS Bio, a Monash University biotech company that specialises in the development of pain relief therapies.
He is the Senior Editor of Pain Medicine and has been published in over 100 peer-reviewed journals.
