Professor Gail Risbridger

Prof Gail Risbridger

Professor Gail Risbridger holds the positions of both Director, Centre for Urological Research Associate Dean Research, Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University.

She gained her PhD in testicular paracrinology from Monash University in 1981. Over the next ten years she worked at both the Royal Children's Hospital and Monash University's Departments of Physiology and Anatomy.

Professor Risbridger was a founding member of the Monash Institute of Medical Research in 1991. Four years later, she was awarded an NHMRC Principal Research Fellowship, and spent a sabbatical as Visiting Professor at the Department of Anatomy at the University of California, San Francisco in 1997.  Upon her return, she created the Centre for Urological Research in partnership with Associate Professor Mark Frydenberg (Department of Urology, Monash Medical Centre).

In 2006, Professor Risbridger received the British Endocrine Society Oceania Award in recognition of the significant contribution she has made to research in the field.

She has also been awarded an Academy of Science Fellowship, Kings College/Monash Fellowship and the Monash Silver Jubilee Prize in recognition for her work in prostate disease. She has generated intellectual property which has been used to establish Prostate Diagnostics Inc.

Professor Risbridger also acts as a consultant for pharmaceutical companies and serves on editorial boards and committees for NHMRC.
