Dr Michael Hickey

After completing his PhD at the University of Melbourne, Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology in 1996, Dr Hickey worked at the University of Calgary in Canada (1996-1999) and the Baker Heart Research Institute (2000-2001) as a Postdoctoral Fellow.
During this time he became an expert in the use of intravital microscopy to assess alterations in the microcirculation during inflammatory responses. Dr Hickey received the International Institute of Microcirculation Award at the World Congress of Microcirculation in 2001, and the John Casley-Smith Research Award for Scientific Excellence at the Australian & New Zealand Microcirculation Society’s 11th Symposium in 2003.
