Dr Stephen Mcpherson
Research Fellow, Centre for Urological Research
Dr Stephen McPherson completed a MSc Degree with the Centre for Urological Research, investigating the regulatory roles of activin in prostate cancer. He expanded this research for his PhD studies, where he studied hormonal and growth factor regulation of prostate growth.
After finishing his PhD in 2002, Dr McPherson widened his area of prostate research to include the role of hormonal imbalances of the pathogenesis and progression of benign prostate disease (BPH) and prostate cancer.
As a recipient of a 2005 New Investigator Award grant from the US Department of Defense, Stephen's current research involves using aromatase knockout (ArKO) and over-expressing (AROM+) mice to investigate the impact of neonatal imbalances of estrogen on induction of prostate disease in adulthood.
