Dr Bernadette Scott
Dr Bernadette Scott undertook her PhD at the University of Melbourne and then trained at the Basel Institute for Immunology, Switzerland and the Scripps Research Institute in California where she worked on models of T cell tolerance using transgenic technology. On returning to Australia, Dr Scott worked at the University of Western Australia and developed new mouse models to study the immune response to cancer, with a particular interest in malignant mesothelioma.
At MIMR, Dr Scott has been able to expand this interest to the study the interaction between macrophages and cancer cells and how this interaction could be manipulated in the design of novel anti-cancer therapies for mesothelioma and other solid cancers. In addition, Dr Scott is a Project Leader within the CRC for Chronic Inflammatory Diseases investigating the impact of target genes on macrophage function in diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
