Dr Brendan Jenkins

Dr Brendan Jenkins

Dr Brendan Jenkins is a Senior Scientist and Laboratory Head at the Centre for Functional Genomics and Human Disease at MIMR. He is also a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), RD Wright Postdoctoral Research Fellow.

Following his PhD studies at the Hanson Institute in Adelaide, Dr Jenkins continued his research interest on the roles of cytokines in haematological disorders at the world-renowned Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle, USA. Since moving back to Australia in 1999, he has expanded his research to examine the roles cytokines play in cancer and inflammation. At the start of 2006, he joined MIMR and has further expanded his research to include lung disease.

Amongst his scientific achievements are publications in the highest ranking journals including Nature, Nature Medicine, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Blood, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Gastroenterology and Journal of Clinical Investigation. In recognition of his group’s research, Dr Jenkins has received numerous international awards, is a holder of NHMRC Project grants and has been an invited speaker at local and international scientific meetings. He also has long standing collaborative projects with researchers both nationwide and overseas.
