Professor David Healy, Chair, Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Professor Healy was appointed Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash University in 1990 and Chairman and Professor of the Monash University Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1994. He is Head of the Reproductive Medicine Unit at Monash Medical Centre, Melbourne Australia.

Professor Healy completed his PhD on Prolactin at Monash in 1979.  He then trained at the Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne and then completed his obstetrics and gynaecology specialty training at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA and at the MRC Unit and Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Edinburgh, Scotland.  In 1985, Prof Healy became the first Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to be awarded a Wellcome Trust Senior Clinical Research Fellowship.

Prof Healy was Program Chairman of the 17th World Congress International Federation of Fertility Societies, 2001. He is a past President of the Fertility Society of Australia, past Chairman of the Australian and New Zealand University Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and past Senior Examiner in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for RANZCOG and the Australian Medical Council. 

In 2002 he was awarded Fellowship Ad Eundem of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, United Kingdom, for his contributions to the Science and Art of Clinical Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Women’s Health. 
Professor Healy has written 7 books including Effective Gynaecological Day Surgery and the soon to be released Endometriosis: Science and Practice.  He has published over 250 research articles in peer reviewed journals.
In 2008, Prof Healy was Chairman of the World Endometriosis Society Meeting. 

Prof Healy is President of the International Federation of Fertility Societies (IFFS) from 2010 until 2013.
