Dr Flora Wong is currently completing her PhD studies in ‘New bedside technique for utilizing Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS)’ which investigates ways to monitor and reduce brain injury in premature babies using this new technology. In 2004 she was awarded the prestigious Premiers Prize, only one of 6 awarded in Victoria, which enabled her to complete a year of her PhD studies at the University College London, looking at the use of NIRS to measure cerebral oxygenation in newborn babies.
Dr Wong was has been appointed as a Ritchie Centre Research Fellow with a joint appointment as a consultant neonatologist with Monash Newborn Services, Monash Medical Centre. Her research continues to focus on brain blood flow and oxygenation in relation to brain injury in newborn babies undergoing intensive care.
