Centre for Women's Health Research

The Centre for Women’s Health Research aims to reduce illness and improve quality of life for women and babies. Scientists research a range of female-specific health issues including endometriosis, uterine fibroids, pelvic prolapse and ovarian and breast cancer. Many of these diseases are still poorly understood, but continue to cause women around the world pain, loss of quality of life and fertility problems. Scientists working in the Centre for Women's Health Research also has a team dedicated to maternal-fetal medicine which continues to break new ground in understanding miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as exploring the research possibilities of placental stem cells.

Scientists and clinicians working in the Centre for Women's Health Research are also part of Monash University’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and have close ties with Monash Medical Centre’s Maternity and Neo-Natal wards. These close links mean doctors can approach scientists with treatment problems and issues, and scientists can undertake laboratory-based research to enhance clinicians’ understanding of diseases.
